Here is the first new piece from Bombshell Revival Designs’ fall/winter 2015 collection! It is an upcycled vest titled “Herald” and has an Alice in Wonderland theme, specifically referencing the white rabbit.
The fabric of the vest is a faux silk brocade and is unlined with a serged finish to the seams. Front and back darts at the waist give it some shaping and it has a four button center front closure. The original buttons were small, fabric covered buttons but, I opted to change them to something a little larger and a bit more in keeping with the whimsical feel of the piece. The tag inside this vest when purchased read “medium”.
Tasseled braid, delicate black lace and vintage square shape lace trim the back and edges of the vest. A large ecru toned doily and an image of the white rabbit in herald costume were appliqued to the back of the vest. The white rabbit has been detailed with red foil hearts, clock hands, a lace ruff and a blue ribbon bow.
A black lace piece with cream doily center and tassel has been placed on the right hand side of the vest front. The center of this décor has been further embellished with a painted and lacquered white rabbit made of wood that I found during one of my thrift store treasure hunts. This find was the inspiration and jumping off point for the theme of this vest. Red foil hearts and a blue ribbon bow were added to the wooden rabbit to provide further cohesion between the front and back of the vest.
Alice in Wonderland seems to be a recurring theme in my pieces and while my new collection is not solely “Alice” pieces, I am sure this vest will not be the last!
