This is Frankentina. She is a sweet and loveable voodoo rag doll that I recently handcrafted who seems to have caused quite the sensation!
I purchased the printed doll pattern from a fabric designer/artist through Spoonflower with the thought of making one to see how it turned out and whether or not it would be something I could customize and make my own. Well, it turned out to be the right thing to do because once I had her finished and placed at A Curious Shop for sale, she turned on her fluffiness powder power full blast! She sold not too long after I brought her to the shop and was given as a going away gift to a man who just fell in love with her at first sight. Frankentina has now set out on an adventure with him – he recently moved from Ottawa and didn’t even pack her away…she rode in the front seat of the car with him on his journey!
Since she sold, I have had a couple of people ask me about her at the last show I did. They were sad that she was already sold and asked if and when I would make her “cousins” so they could purchase one. A Curious Shop has also asked me to bring them a couple more. I am not sure what it is about her and/or the personal touches I gave her but, she seems to make people feel good and just want to have her as their own. It feels good to create something that gives people such happiness and can still be my preferred mix of creepy yet cute or pretty.
I have ordered four more of the patterns and will let everyone know once the dolls are finished and ready for their new homes!
