Yes, that’s right – Bombshell Revival is going to be a vendor/exhibitor at Ottawa Comiccon 2014!
I am so excited about this show and opportunity! This will be Bombshell Revival’s kind of crowd! Cosplay, anime, role play, goth, steampunk, trekkies, collectors of all kinds, geeks, nerds and outside the box individuals galore!
I enjoyed most of the shows around and just outside Ottawa that I participated in this past fall and appreciated the support in the way of comments and sales that the shows generated for me but, by the last show, it also became apparent to me that I needed to start trying my hand at shows that were a better fit for me and my product. It had been suggested to me by several fellow artists and a few customers that Comiccon would be an ideal place for me. Knowing a bit about what kind of event Comiccon and the like is, I made the decision to look into when the next one would be in Ottawa and to apply!
Once home from my final show at the end of November, I did an online search that very evening and discovered that the next Comiccon being held in Ottawa was in May, 2014. I filled out the application and sent it in that very night before I could change my mind and chicken out. I received an invoice back that same night for payment, paid it and I was in!
For those of you who are not familiar with exactly what “comic-con” is, I would define it as a large, annual 3-day convention featuring comic books, games, arts, movies, and various pop culture. At a comic-con event you will find the coolest and the hottest actors/actresses of sci-fi television shows and movies as well as the biggest dorks and geeks in the world under one roof. There are many attendees who come in costume and there are special VIP passes one can purchase to attend q&a and meet and greet sessions with special guests. There is sometimes an iconic vehicle, such as the Batmobile, at these events and even gaming rooms for those who wish to indulge in large scale gaming contests at the event. Artists and vendors exhibit and sell their wares to collectors and other enthusiasts of this culture. Attendance at comic=cons number in the thousands. There was a Toronto comic con held in 2013 that had to close its doors on the Saturday to further entrance as it was jammed to capacity!
This year’s Ottawa Comiccon is being held on May 9th to 11th, 2014 at the Ernst & Young Centre. I will be there all three days and will have a corner aisle booth. The hours are Friday 3pm to 8pm, Saturday 10am to 7pm and Sunday 10am to 5pm. For more information on location, special guests and events over the weekend, you can go to the Ottawa Comiccon website at http://www.ottawacomiccon.com/
I am really looking forward to immersing myself further into this culture and discovering if this sort of event and clientele will indeed be my niche market. If this new endeavor is a success for me, it will open more doors and new contacts for me I am sure! I will also be unveiling a new display (I’m bored with my old one already!) with more of a circus or dark carnival theme to it.
Hope to see you there!
