This upcycled Asian inspired jacket is a show stopper! One of my favourite novels (and movies!) is Memoirs of a Geisha and the imagery used on this jacket reminds me of one of the main characters of the story, hence the title of this piece – Sayuri.
The jacket is constructed from a viscose and rayon blend and is fully lined. It is overflowing with quality of construction and attention to detail – covered buttons at the center front closure and sleeve vents, pin tucked yoke with satin trim, mandarin collar, pleating at the back waist and hemline, as well as a wonderful slightly gathered sleeve head.
A romantic, soft lavender and dusky purple toned Geisha image has been appliqued to the back of the jacket and has been accented with silk brocade “fans”. The applique and the fans have been trimmed with narrow black gimp. Japanese seed beads, Swarovski crystals, rhinestones, silver chain beading, freshwater pearls and lace flowers further embellishment the applique and fans. A silk brocade fan has also been applied to the side front of the jacket and lace motifs accented with Swarovski crystals completes the embellishment of this part of the jacket.
The lining of this jacket is a deep and rich violet, which helped to form the inspiration and colour palette of this design.
This jacket is a size 8 with a seam at the waist that is meant to sit at one’s natural waist line.
