Absolem

September 11, 2014 By kym Leave a Comment

Like many artists, I am always inspired by Alice in Wonderland.  There is just something so magical and escapist about the world and characters that Lewis Carroll imagined.  Absolem is another piece in my mini collection with an Alice in Wonderland theme to it.

This was one of those pieces where it was meant to be.  I had everything needed to bring this creation to life on hand and it just flowed together easily and brought me so much joy in the making of it.  It is elegant, romantic and transports you to another world and time when you see it, and especially when you put it on!

This swing coat style jacket was created from a thrift store find – a jacket made in Hong Kong, so you know the construction and finishes are top notch!  This jacket is very well made with a tone on tone brocade fabric and high quality lining.  The three quarter length sleeves have a shaped, cuffed hemline finished with a contrasting yet complimentary toned lining.  The mandarin style collar has also been finished with the same lining as the sleeve cuffs.  It has a single button closure at the neckline allowing the rest of the coat/jacket to “swing” open.  The colour palette of this jacket fits very well with the Alice in Wonderland theme.

The whimsical and colourful image of Absolem, the caterpillar and Alice under a silvery full moon has been appliqued to the back of the jacket.  The image has been framed with teal matte satin ribbon and the corners accented with clear glass jewels and ribbon rosettes.  The ribbon rosettes have also been placed as further detailing at the sleeve hemline.  Swarovski crystals in complimentary colours provide a further touch of sparkle to this fantasy piece.

As mentioned above, this jacket has a single button closure at the neckline of the center front of the jacket.  The button is hidden beneath a generous dusty pink grosgrain ribbon bow with glass jewels embellishing its center.  The ribbon bow has been hand sewn onto jacket at the left hand side of the neckline.

This jacket is a size S/M but, please note, has a looser fit due to its swing coat shape and raglan style sleeves.  Dry clean or spot clean only, please.
