This hat has been added to my list of my all time favourite hats I have ever created! It is truly unique and a conversation starting piece, if I do say so myself.
The colour palette used is one of my tried and true combinations – soft nudes, pinks, taupes, grey and black. It gives a vintage, romantic and nostalgic feel to this piece and others I have created.
A soft blush pink velvet found on my trip to New Orleans with an overlay of a black, damask patterned, flocked organaza has been applied to an elongated oval shaped hat form to create the base of this piece. The underside has been lined with black felt and trimmed with gimp trim for a clean and professional finish to the hat.
Faded nude pink silk roses, soft grey tulle and black satin ribbon bow with cream, pink and grey flowers at the back of the hat complete the colour pallet of this design. Soft champagne Swarovski crystals add a subtle sparkle to the insides of the silk roses.
The drama of this design comes from the black and white wired velum butterflies that float above the hat. The butterflies are reminiscent to me of black and white photographs. Mirror images of the butterflies have been sandwiched together to ensure that the back of the hat is as fabulous and finished as the front.
This hat sits well on the curve of the wearer’s head and is lightweight. Two sturdy clips have been attached to the underside of the hat base for a secure and comfortable fit.
