This upcycled romantic coat with a boho vibe was created from a deep salmon toned cotton bolero jacket with amazing floral and vine embroidery. The jacket was upcycled to more of a coat in style and length with the addition of a vintage linen tablecloth. The edge of the table cloth is trimmed with wide cotton lace that has a crochet feel to it and star points edging. The table cloth has been dyed using a tea bath to give it a more aged appearance. Soft cream toned cotton embroidered lace was used to trim the sleeve hemlines as well as the neckline of the jacket.
The floral and vine embroidery throughout the jacket has been embellished with pearls and Swarovski crystals. The front of the coat has been further accented with a brooch. The brooch has a cameo nestled in the center of an organza ribbon and silk rosette and is backed with felt and a brooch pin.
The finished coat has a center front ribbon closure, allowing for a wider size range and flow to the garment. This garment is a size small to medium but, due to the silhouette and open front, may fit up to a size large.
Please note: There are a few very small mark/stains on the tablecloth at the back of the coat. This is due to the age of the piece and they are barely noticeable unless very up close to the coat as they are “hidden” within the folds of the fabric of the tablecloth. I have spot cleaned them and was able to lighten and fade them somewhat. In my opinion, and other vintage lovers would agree I am sure, this is just something that adds to the charm of collecting, wearing and loving vintage and antique clothing pieces. There are no other areas of concern with this piece.
I would recommend spot cleaning only for this design and if needed, a gentle cold water wash and hang to dry due to the age of the tablecloth and hand application of the embellishments. A light ironing is also recommended once dry due to the wrinkle nature of linen and cotton.
