Now that my spring shows are over with, I am ready to plunge headlong into preparing for a new event but, this time, with a twist. The event I am currently working on finds me with the titles of creative director as well as designer. I have partnered with Rene Trim of Creative Ottawa for this fabulous venture.
The event is titled Art in Fashion 613 and is being held on Saturday, October 17th at 7pm at the Library Archives in downtown Ottawa. The event will open with a fashion show at 7pm, which will run until approximately 9pm. A night market with shopping, artists, food, drinks and music will follow until 11pm, maybe later if the party is really hopping. We are inviting 10 to 12 designers/artists who wish to participate in the fashion show portion of the event and 30 curated vendors/artists who wish to show and sell their work in the night market portion of the event. As well as fulfilling my creative director duties, I will also be showing a new collection in the fashion show portion of the evening.
The theme of the event is art can be fashion and fashion can be art. As to the definition of “art” for the fashion show portion of the event, I would like to somewhat leave that up to the designer/artist and the viewing audience. The pieces I make tend to be defined as wearable art but, I believe that there can be many forms of wearable art. I am looking for designers and artists who do their own thing and are open to applying it to a piece that can be worn on the body in some way. That could mean t-shirts, dresses, jackets, hats, body armour or decoration, sculptural pieces that can be placed on the body…..whatever inspires them. Of course in a fashion show setting I am looking for designers who make clothing but, I am also interested in someone, for example, who loves to paint or take photographs but has perhaps never put their work onto fabric and then had the fabric made into or applied onto garments or accessories. We are looking for artists interested in and open to creating with the goal in mind of using their work as a wearable item….and that does not only mean wearable in day to day life. The piece(s) created can be simply an art piece that can be worn on the human body, thereby using the model as the “exhibit” space in a fashion show setting. Designers/artists are welcome to create actual collections as well. Also, interested designers and artists can choose to just have exhibit space if they are not interested in showing their work/creations in the fashion show.
This same “definition” and theme is being applied to the selected vendors. We are looking for vendors/artists to show and sell their work who, in the case of painters and sculptors, are open to creating or have already completed pieces to show and sell that are inspired by fashion or even people we look to for fashion inspiration. We will also be featuring artists who create jewellery, hats and other accessories to fit with our art in fashion theme.
The cost of admission for those attending the event is $20 online with a free drink ticket or $20 at the door, no free drink ticket. We have created a website, Facebook page as well as a separate event site for ticket sales and the links for those pages are listed below.

To date, I have received applications and confirmations from some seriously talented and exciting designers and artists for the fashion show and night market! I am blown away by how much creativity, enthusiasm and talent we have right here in our own city. If anyone out there would like to participate or knows someone who would be a perfect fit for this event, please contact either myself or Rene Trim. We still have spaces left in both the fashion show and night market but, the spaces are limited and are filling up fast!
I hope this has piqued your curiosity and you will be snapping up your ticket(s) as it is shaping up to be a fun and unique not to be missed soiree!
