Another new piece from Bombshell Revival Designs’ fall/winter 2015 collection! It is an upcycled vintage jacket titled “Cirque Des Reves” and has a vintage circus theme.
The fabric of the vest is a striped cotton velvet and is lined with black lining. The fabric of this jacket is what made me think “circus”. The stripes reminded me of circus tents and the velvet made me envision rugs, tapestries and costume elements from a circus of long ago. The colours of the stripes were also quite unusual and provided a whimsical and rich palette to work with. The front of the jacket has no closure and there are some subtle front and back darts to give the jacket some shaping. The tag inside this garment when purchased was pretty worn and so, I was not able to garner a size from the label. Based on the way the jacket fits me, I would say this a large and, given it’s open and straight shape, would probably fit a few silhouettes comfortably.
Black lace with a metallic gold scalloped edge trim the images, sleeve ends, neckline and front opening of the jacket. A large ecru toned doily and an image of a vintage tattooed lady circus poster were appliqued to the back of the jacket. The tattooed lady poster has been accented with amber toned Swarovski crystals.
Images of a costumed circus elephant, side show circus poster and Paris train station with Ferris wheel have also been appliqued to the front of the jacket. They have also been embellished with doilies and Swarovski crystals in various colours. The Ferris wheel applique has an inspirational plaque that reads “live the life you’ve imagined. Perhaps such as, running away to join the circus…..
