Well, it’s that time again….creating new pieces for the fall shows! This blouse is the latest, hot off the machine addition to my collection. I have called it “Nouveau Butterfly” because the front and back butterfly appliques remind me of one of my favourite time periods for jewellery and embellishment – art nouveau. Art nouveau is a style of decorative art, architecture and design which was prominent from about 1890 until World War I and was characterized by intricate linear designs and flowing curves based on natural forms. The art nouveau movement incorporated natural elements such as butterflies, dragonflies and peacocks in jewellery, fabric prints and even wallpaper motifs.
This blouse is a size large and its fabric content is mainly rayon. It is a tunic style and its rounded hemline is longer in the back than the front. It slips over the head and has a loose and slightly flowing fit. I love the back detailing with its “v” shaped cut out and tiny covered buttons at the neckline. There are also covered buttons on the sleeve bands. The colour of this blouse is a flattering shade of periwinkle blue.
When I saw these butterfly appliques, I had to have them! They were so dramatic and were the perfect base for the added sparkle of some Swarovski crystals in violet and tanzanite shades. The colour palette of the butterflies was the perfect compliment for the blouse and their shape fit the front and back necklines as if they were made for this blouse.
I am very happy with how this piece turned out and I think it will make the perfect addition to someone’s casual and work wardrobe. It is also a piece that can be worn all year round due to its 3/4 length sleeves, light fabric and all season colour and detailing. Due to the heat set Swarovski crystals, this blouse should be hand washed and hung to dry or machine washed on cold in a front loader machine and then hung to dry. The original label has been left on the garment to further aid in cleaning and care of this blouse.
For any one wishing to give this beauty a try, I will have this amazing and feminine piece with me at my next shows – 613Flea on August 13th and the Merrickville Artisan and Antique Show on August 27th & 28th. If it lasts that long!
