This upcycled knit jacket attracted me with its grey and black stripes, one of my favourite patterns and colour combinations. the finishing of some of its key inside seams and its modern and simple shape did not hurt either. The original black plastic button at the front closure had seen better days and so it was switched to a matte black stud inspired button. Other than that small change, the rest of the jacket’s bones did not need any re-vamping.
I have titled this design “Skull Candy” because the over all finished look of this design is edgy but, sweet. The skull and roses image on the back of the jacket has been framed by flesh toned pink tulle trim accented with tiny iridescent sequins layered over black flat lace. It has also been embellished with some leftover shabby chic tulle and chiffon black roses and Swarovski crystals in a rose and light amethyst.
The hemline of the sleeves has been trimmed with black lace ruffle and more of the tulle and sequin trim. The same black lace ruffle also accents the pockets on the front of the jacket. Just to make sure there was balance between the front and back of the jacket, one lapel of the jacket has also had some detailing added.
I am pleased with this design. It is exciting to look at and very unique. The planning of the look and colour scheme came together quite quickly, which is always nice. I am certain this one will be a hit at my fall shows and will provide someone with a new treasure that is sure to boost her personal style confidence and garner her many compliments in the process!
